Armscor Rock Island Armory 1911 A2 (For Para P18 Style Magazines) Double Stack Magazine Basepad 54152

The Armscor / Rock Island Armory 1911 A2 Double-Stack Magazine Base Pad (54152) is designed for use with Mec-Gar Para P16 and P18 magazines, as well as Armscor factory 54180 and 54180B magazines manufactured by Mec-Gar. These base pads allow the magazines to function properly in Rock Island Armory 1911 A2 pistols equipped with the extended magazine well.

Compatible with:

  • Armscor / Mec-Gar 1911 A2 magazines
  • Mec-Gar Para P16 10 and 15 round magazines
  • Mec-Gar Para P18 10 and 17 round magazines
  • Armscor factory 54180 and 54180B magazines
  • 1911 A2 magazines in 9mm, .40 S&W, and 22 TCM

These are not the same base pad that comes on the new Armscor 91718 magazine made by ACT-MAG.

This OEM factory base pad replaces the original metal floorplate on compatible double-stack magazines, allowing them to properly seat and function with the extended magwell found on certain RIA 1911 A2 pistols.

The same base pad is factory-installed on Armscor 54180B magazines and may also be used to convert standard Armscor 54180 or the Mec-Gar Para Ordinance P16 (.40 S&W only) and the Mec-Gar Para Ordinance P18 magazines (9mm only) for use with extended magwell models.

Installation Notes:

  • Carefully remove the original metal floorplate and magazine insert/locking plate (if present) from the magazine spring before installation.
  • Follow all installation instructions below closely.
  • Damaged, modified, or mutilated base pads returns cannot be accepted.

Please note: these base pads are different from those used on the newer ACT-MAG (91718) magazines now commonly supplied as OEM magazines with Rock Island Armory 1911 A2 pistols.

A customer of mine emailed me these instructions. A thin plastic shim or a thin feeler gauge. Either of those would be less likely to mar the base pad or magazine.

Be sure not to use too much force, or you may snap off the magazine base pad’s tab.

  1. Needed the Mec-Gar P18 magazine, a small flat-head screwdriver, a thin shim or feeler gauge, and a new Armscor extended baseplate.

  2. Remove the metal floorplate and magazine insert from the magazine. Start sliding the baseplate onto the magazine. Position the screwdriver to act as a fulcrum to bend down the rear of the magazine baseplate ear.

  3. Take the magazine to the edge of a worktable, pushing down to continue the floorplate onto the base of the magazine while using a screwdriver as a fulcrum to bend the ear down. The base pad will slip right into place.
